Hello and welcome! Please understand that this website is not affiliated with Coty in any way, it is only a reference page for collectors and those who have enjoyed the classic fragrances of days gone by.

The main objective of this website is to chronicle the history of the Coty fragrances and showcase the bottles and advertising used throughout the years.

However, one of the other goals of this website is to show the present owners of the Coty perfume company how much we miss the discontinued classics and hopefully, if they see that there is enough interest and demand, they will bring back these fragrances!

Please leave a comment below (for example: of why you liked the fragrance, describe the scent, time period or age you wore it, who gave it to you or what occasion, any specific memories, what it reminded you of, maybe a relative wore it, or you remembered seeing the bottle on their vanity table), who knows, perhaps someone from the current Coty brand might see it.

Also, this website is a labor of love, it is a work in progress and is always being updated with new information as I can find it, so check back often!

Spoturno 1921

Veronique Coty's company La Cité des Parfums, recreated a fragrance that was inspired by a 100 year old formula composed by her great grandfather, the infamous parfumer, François Coty. Christened Sportuno 1921, only available as two limited editions: a 100ml bottle (1,400€/in 200 numbered pieces), and a luxurious “altar” coffret (5,000€/in 20 numbered pieces)l. To purchase or learn more, visit the Spoturno 1921 website.

The extrait de parfum’s packaging embraces traditional French craftsmanship and was designed by Tristan Auer, an interior architect. The bespoke crystal bottle was made via semi-automatic production by the Waltersperger glassworks. The flacon is topped with a glass stopper inlaid with a blooming lily design, torch-blown by talented glass artisan Adrian Colin. The bottle is sealed with the old fashioned baudruchage technique with gold threads wrapped around the stopper and neck of bottle. Instead of paper, the front of the bottle features a gilded, embossed aluminum label, manufactured by DB Groupe. Both limited editions utilize this flacon.

For only 20 examples, the extrait de parfum is housed in a luxurious presentation box which is its very own work of art. Known as the "chapel case," it is a result of a collaboration between several French artisans. The curved coffret opens with double doors, in the French style. The cathedral arched metal structure of the box was created by Emporte-pièces des Mauges (EPM) and the exterior surface is covered with a superb emerald crackle effect highlighted with white gold kintsugi created by Atelier l'Etoile. The base and doors are embellished with gold leafing by Ateliers Gohard. Inside the doors are custom designed mirrors manufactured by glass artisan Benoît Bertron of Kopper Glass. Dardel produced the wooden, rectangular travel boxes which are lined with satin and covered with mossy green paper from Winter and hot stamped in gold serigraphy with the Spoturno crest of a crown phoenix. The wooden presentation boxes, also created by Dardel, are lined in goatskin and covered in paper from Winter.

The fragrance, as we learned earlier, is based on notes from an original formula composed by Francois Coty,in 1921. This fragrance was baptized with the name Emeraude and was said to be the first oriental fragrance created in the modern era of perfume. The scent of Emeraude has been updated according to current regulations but still retains the vintage aura that only a Coty masterpiece could generate. The modernized composition was created by the Maison PARFUM COSMETIC WORLD FRANCE in Grasse, under the direction of Patrice Blaizot. The firm retained the forest green color of the juice that Emeraude was known for. Rechristened as Spoturno 1921, it is classified as a floral woody musk fragrance for women.

  • Top notes: lemon, bergamot, lavender and caraway
  • Middle notes: jasmine, ylang-ylang, rose, violet and orange blossom
  • Base notes: heliotrope, tonka bean, vanilla, sandalwood, vetiver, patchouli and musk

Spoturno 1921 is described by La Cité des Parfums as:

Background:

A welcoming accord of soft woods; sandalwood, vetiver roots and patchouli leaves on a powdery bed of heliotrope, tonka beans, vanilla and musky notes."
